House of the Dragon Season 3 set photos hint at debut of Isle of Faces’ Green Men
Set photos from the third season of House of the Dragon have offered a closer look at an important addition to the Game of Thrones universe. The images, reportedly taken from the production set, appear to show the Green Men, figures from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire lore. The HBO series, based on Martin’s Fire & Blood, will continue to follow the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
In the newly surfaced photos, an actor can be seen wearing green prosthetics. He was in a costume designed with forest-like details, including prominent antlers. This has led to speculation that the character represents one of the Green Men, who briefly appeared in Season 2. In that earlier sequence, Daemon Targaryen followed Alys Rivers to the Godswood at Harrenhal. In that scene, Daemon briefly encountered a shadowed figure resembling a Green Man before experiencing his prophetic vision of the war’s outcome.
Within Martin’s story, the Green Men are described as guardians of the Isle of Faces. This is a sacred location in the center of the Gods Eye lake. The island is home to ancient weirwood trees, believed to hold deep spiritual significance.
House of the Dragon Season 3 has wrapped filming, with the series expected to return to HBO Max following post-production. It will continue to explore the ongoing conflict between the Greens and the Blacks of House Targaryen. The series’ cast includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, among many others.
