Spider-Man: Far From Home Beats Projections, Swings Towards $180 Million Opening

Spider-Man: Far From Home Beats Box Office Projections

Prior to this weekend, Spider-Man: Far From Home was projected for a six-day opening of $150 million. But thanks to a strong turnout on Thursday and Friday, Spidey’s latest adventure may open well above its predictions.

Via Deadline, Far From Home only dipped 6.7% from Wednesday, July 3 to Thursday, July 4 with $25 million. On Friday, July 5, Far From Home rose to $32.5 million, bringing its domestic total to approximately $124 million. By the end of the weekend, the film is likely to fall somewhere between $177 million and $184 million. The final tally won’t be available until Monday, but a closer estimate will likely arrive tomorrow.

Internationally, Far From Home has also proven to be a strong contender, especially with $144.7 million from China alone. Worldwide, the total is currently around $310 million. But by the end of the weekend, that total may rise to $575 million. If Far From Home eventuality crosses $1 billion worldwide, it will be the first Spider-Man movie to do so. That is largely due to the increasing influence of the Chinese box office, but it’s still a significant milestone for one of Marvel’s top heroes.

Domestically, Far From Home won’t face any serious competition until July 19, when Disney releases its remake of The Lion King. Regardless, Spidey will likely be swinging near the top of the box office for at least the next month.
