Anthony Daniels Wraps Filming on Star Wars: Episode IX

Principal photography on Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to wrap next month. With this, we can anticipate several actors bidding adieu to the Star Wars franchise in the coming weeks. The first of these farewells comes from C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels. The actor announced on Twitter that he has just completed all of his scenes for this year’s sequel, and gave special props to director and co-writer J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. You can check out what he had to say below.

Daniels holds the distinction of being the only actor to appear in every Star Wars film in the original, prequel, and sequel trilogies. He previously shared this honor with R2-D2 performer Kenny Baker until his death in 2016. That same year, Daniels reprised his role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for a brief cameo. He has also made appearances as C-3PO across other media, including animated series, video games, and live-action specials.

Daniels’ tweet doesn’t exactly read like a retirement message. Nevertheless, we have to wonder how long he’ll continue to play C-3PO in the Star Wars universe. After all, the current trilogy hasn’t been featuring C-3PO or R2-D2 as much as prior installments. At 72, it would be perfectly understandable if Daniels wanted to hang up his gold plating and allow newer droids like BB-8 to grab the spotlight. But even so, we would be sad to see him go.

Star Wars: Episode IX opens on December 20, 2019 and hopefully, the impending end of filming means that an official title announcement isn’t far behind. You can share your thoughts on Anthony Daniels’ remarks in the comment section below!
