Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be getting a surprise return from a past villain. Should they be in the movie, it’ll bring one of the earlier films full circle.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed the MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which was released in 2021. The movie will once again be led by Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are also expected to return for the sequel. They will be joined by cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Jon Bernthal, and Tillman, among others.
While most of the film’s plot remains unknown, we do know several villains will appear in the movie. One villain who hasn’t exactly been revealed but is rumored is Shocker. The character, who was played by Bokeem Woodbine, is rumored to be in the movie, according to insider Daniel Richtman. Should he return, it’ll not only add a new layer to the movie but also complete a thread from the original film.
Shocker’s potential return would bring Homecoming to the forefront of the new Spider-Man movie
While Shocker’s return isn’t confirmed, eagle-eyed fans did spot some clues that he might be back. In the newest trailer for Brand New Day, one of Shocker’s vibro-shock gauntlets looks to be on Spider-Man’s wrist at the end of the trailer, where he’s seen with The Hulk. While it could be possible that Peter just has one of the gauntlets lying around, it quickly gave fans the idea that Shocker would be around. Should he return, it’d make sense for a lot of reasons.
For one, Shocker is one of Spider-Man’s more “street-level” villains and is often seen sparring with him in the city. If Brand New Day is returning to the roots of the character, it would make sense to see Shocker (real name Herman Schultz) appear. On top of that, it would also tie in nicely with the first MCU Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie actually introduced two Shocker’s, the first of which was Jackson Brice (Logan Marshall-Green), who was accidentally killed by Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Michael Keaton) before Woodbine’s Schultz takes the gauntlets.
Schultz then briefly fought with Spider-Man at the end of the movie, but was subdued quickly. Seeing as how a number of villains from Spider-Man’s past, including Scorpion, are set to appear in Brand New Day, Shocker showing up to also get some measure of vengeance on him makes sense, and would also be great to see in the movie.
