New Sgt. Rock Rumor Is Good News for DCU Fans

Following rumors about production delays, DC Studios’ Sgt. Rock movie has finally received an exciting update. This comes after it was previously reported that the studio had decided to delay the project’s scheduled production start date.

What’s the new update for DCU’s Sgt. Rock movie?

After acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s exit from the DC Universe movie was confirmed, insider Daniel Richtman revealed that DC Studios has reportedly started looking for a new director for the Sgt. Rock movie. This is a promising update for fans excited for the DC character’s live-action debut.

Before Guadagnino’s exit, Oscar nominee Colin Farrell was initially attached for the leading role. It was previously rumored that Daniel Craig and Jeremy Allen White were considered for the project. Now that the Call Me By Your Name director has left the movie, it’s still unclear if his collaborator, Justin Kuritzkes, will be writing the script. Further details about its plot are still under wraps, but DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn shared that the project is “in a pretty good place” creatively.

“I feel like we’re in a pretty good place,” Gunn said. “We’re still moving forward, but it’s not going to be . . . What would Peter want me to say here . . . So it’s still moving forward, but, yeah, right now it wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be creatively, and so it needs to change a little bit.”

Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, the character is described as “a tough-as-nails leader of Easy Company, the combat unit fighting Nazi forces in Europe.”
