Rey Skywalker Star Wars Movie Not Shelved, Says Insider

The Rey Skywalker Star Wars movie has not been shelved, according to an industry insider.

Lucasfilm previously tapped Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to helm a Star Wars movie focused on Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker character. Not much is known about the project other than that it will be set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

Scooper Daniel Richtman recently claimed that Lucasfilm decided to shelve the Rey Star Wars movie, though Richtman said that the project has only halted development and has not been cancelled.

What is the latest update on the Rey Skywalker Star Wars movie?

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, however, the project still remains in active development.

Sneider said on The Hot Mic, “LucasFilm doesn’t have a script yet. So, it’s not on hold. It’s actively being written…LucasFilm is waiting on the Rey movie to be delivered…That script has not been finalized. If it was on hold, they’d say, ‘You know what, stop writing. We’re not even gonna do it.’ But they’re waiting for it. So it’s not on hold.”

He added, “As I’ve said in the past, that movie is not the only one with Rey in it as a lead character. There are multiple projects being developed with Rey as the lead character.”

The Rey Star Wars movie does not have an official release date at this time, and no other casting is known beyond Ridley.

The next Star Wars movie will be Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, which arrives in United States theaters on May 22, 2026. The cast of that film includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne.

After that comes Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter on May 28, 2027. Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth have both been tapped to star in that project.
