Sadie Sink’s Stranger Things Character Was Already Hinting at Jean Grey Rumors

While rumors about Sadie Sink being cast as Jean Grey continue to swirl, it seems that Netflix’s Stranger Things might have already hinted at the connection years earlier. Sink was a prominent part of the Netflix series and played Maxine “Max” Mayfield in Seasons 2 and the following seasons.

How Sadie Sink’s Stranger Things role connects to Jean Grey rumors

X user @whatisyouralibi took to the platform to share side-by-side images of Sink’s Max in Stranger Things and Jean Grey from 2008’s X-Men Origins: Jean Grey. The poster asked in the caption, “This is crazy, like what do you mean the outfit Sadie Sink wore on her first Stranger Things episode is the exact one Jean wore when she first manifested her powers?”

Indeed, there are similarities in the outfits that Max and Jean have in respective images, though there are aspects that set them apart as well. Nevertheless, the apparent similarities add to the speculation about Sink’s casting as Jean Grey, which has only increased since Steve Lacy’s comment about Jean’s inclusion in the film.

Jean Grey has a long history both in comics and live-action films. Created by Marvel icons Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Jean made her first appearance in The X-Men #1 in 1963. As a founding member of the superhero group, she has consistently ranked among its most beloved heroes. Her impact on the superhero genre has only increased over the years. Notably, writer Sean McKeever and Mike Mayhew developed the above-mentioned X-Men Origins: Jean Grey comic for Marvel. Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner have already portrayed live-action versions of the character in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies.

If Sink is indeed portraying Jean, her introduction into the MCU through Brand New Day will likely lead to appearances of other X-Men members. Interestingly, several actors from the 20th Century Fox movies, including Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, are already part of the MCU.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out in US theaters this Friday.
