Spider-Man 4 nearly featured a wild body horror plot for Tom Holland’s superhero movie before it was fully abandoned. The popular Hollywood star is going to reprise his iconic character of Peter Parker in the awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day this week.
During an interaction with Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz, Tom Holland revealed that he had some insane ideas for Peter Parker’s physical evolution in Spider-Man 4. “At one point I was like, ‘What if he had like fangs that come out of his hands?’ And he had, like, Venom spikes at one point and that is not in the movie, don’t worry.”
His imagination even included “nightmare sequences of him waking up as the Man-Spider.” But these body horror ideas were soon discarded for a very obvious reason. “And very quickly we were like, ‘We do want children to enjoy this movie as much as adults. You know, this is a little bit too creepy.'”
Tom Holland is already thinking about Spider-Man’s successor
In the same podcast episode, Tom Holland also discussed his future as Spider-Man moving forward in the MCU. While he’s been a fan-favorite so far, thanks to his appearances in Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, there will come a time when he will have to pass the baton to his successor.
Miles Morales is expected to take Peter Parker’s legacy forward in the MCU, and Holland knows it. But he also knows how this transition will take place eventually.
Holland revealed, “There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it’s like laid out. It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision for passing on the baton and I think it’s really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it.”
As for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it will also feature other notable names such as Sadie Sink, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal will also make special appearances in their iconic roles of Bruce Banner/Hulk and Frank Castle/The Punisher. Other key cast members include Michael Mando, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III.
