Spider-Man 4: Hulk Star Mark Ruffalo’s Recent Absences Finally Make Sense

Mark Ruffalo‘s continued absence from Spider-Man 4’s press tours finally has an explanation. The popular actor is part of Tom Holland‘s upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He will be seen reprising the role of Bruce Banner and Hulk.

Mark Ruffalo’s absence from Spider-Man: Brand New Day has an explanation

Mark Ruffalo has been absent from Brand New Day promotional events. Mostly, fans have only noticed Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal appearing in front of cameras to talk about the anticipated movie.

But there’s been no mention of Mark Ruffalo, who’s also an integral part of the cast. They have come up with various theories and rumors about why the actor could be missing from the promotions. Some believe that Marvel may have deliberately kept him on the sidelines due to his habit of giving away spoilers. Others think it could be because of his political ideologies. However, there’s an actual, logical explanation for why Mark Ruffalo has been missing from Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tours.

It appears Mark Ruffalo is actually busy shooting for the second season of the Task TV series, according to a CBS News report. The actor is part of the popular crime drama, which premiered last year. He plays the character of Tom Brandis in the acclaimed series.

It was recently confirmed that HBO Max’s Task Season 2 started filming earlier this month, on July 9, 2026, in Manayunk, Philadelphia. That explains Ruffalo’s absence during Spider-Man 4’s promotional events.

Fans will witness the Savage Hulk version of Bruce Banner in the movie fighting Spider-Man. Besides Ruffalo, the movie also features Michael Mando, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III in essential roles.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
