Anson Mount has opened up about his surprise Marvel comeback. The actor revealed exactly how Kevin Feige lured him back as Black Bolt for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and he is not ruling out another resurrection for the silent king.
Doctor Strange 2’s Anson Mount teases Black Bolt and Inhumans’ return
The 2022 sequel to Doctor Strange gave Mount a shot at redemption after the poorly received Inhumans series. Now, with his profile soaring thanks to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the actor says he would happily walk through the door again if Marvel came calling.
While speaking with ScreenRant, Mount recalled the moment his unexpected return as Black Bolt materialized. “An unexpected phone call from Kevin Feige himself” set the wheels in motion, with the Marvel Studios president making it clear this would be an alternate reality version of the character from Earth-838. “The phone call was basically, ‘Hey, would you like to come and reprise this role that got canceled and let us pay you a lot of money?’” he said. “I was like, ‘Sure, man.’ And I had a wonderful time.”
Furthermore, when asked about whether he would return for an Inhumans reboot, Anson Mount shared, “Yeah. My philosophy in this business has been to walk through the open door, and it’s served me pretty well thus far.” The actor added that he has his own ideas for the character and confirmed post-Doctor Strange conversations with Feige, though he acknowledged Marvel has “bigger fish to fry.”
The timing could work in Mount’s favour. Strange New Worlds has now wrapped filming its series finale, potentially freeing up his schedule. While the Earth-838 Black Bolt met a gruesome end, the Sacred Timeline version remains alive and unaccounted for. Mount’s willingness, combined with his dramatically elevated star power, keeps the door ajar for the Inhumans’ silent king.
