The new Street Fighter movie has revealed the best look yet for Jason Momoa‘s Blanka character. The DC star is part of a huge cast from the upcoming live-action adaptation of Capcom‘s iconic fighting video game franchise.
The latest Street Fighter movie clip teases an epic fight scene between Andrew Koji‘s Ryu and Jason Momoa’s Blanka inside what seems like a prison. Ryu is forced to prove himself by taking on Blanka. Ryu initially tries to avoid the face-off, saying, “I don’t want to fight you.” However, Blanka fires back, saying, “Then you die.”
The clip ends just before the epic battle begins, but Street Fighter fans will certainly enjoy this moment when it fully flashes out in theaters. As for the appearance, Momoa’s Blanka looks almost similar to his counterpart from Capcom’s Street Fighter games. Blanka, whose birth name is Jimmy, originally appeared in the Street Fighter II game as one of eight playable characters.
Why Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji raise hopes for Street Fighter
Based on the promotional teasers and trailers for the Street Fighter movie, it can be said that the new live-action adaptation is looking promising, at least for now.
Besides Jason Momoa’s Blanka, other characters also appear faithful compared to their video game versions, for example, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, and Cody Rhodes as Guile. The addition is great for avid fans of the series who want accurate portrayals of their favorite Street Fighter characters.
In the past, there have been two major live-action Street Fighter movies, but they were forgettable. The first one came out in 1994 and was heavily panned by critics as well as fans. Currently, it holds a very poor Tomatometer score of just 11% and a Popcornmeter score of 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, another film released in 2009, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, also failed to make any impact. Currently, it holds an abysmal Tomatometer score of just 3% and a Popcornmeter score of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As for the new Street Fighter movie, it’s directed by Kitao Sakurai and is based on a screenplay by Sakurai and T.J. Fixman. Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Takayuki Nakayama, and Stefan Makhoul are the producers. Jay Ashenfelter, JJ Hook, Kenzo Tsujimoto, and Haruhiro Tsujimoto are serving as the executive producers.
The ensemble cast also includes Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe Roman Reigns Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, and Curtis Jackson as Balrog.
Street Fighter movie hits theaters on October 16, 2026.
