A new MCU update is exciting news for Black Panther fans.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released at the end of this year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, follows in 2027.
Marvel has so far released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is returning to the MCU, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth teaser put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Black Panther/Shuri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, among others.
What is the Black Panther update?
There’s been much speculation that Marvel has plans to introduce a new Black Panther at some point in the near future. The most popular online rumors believe that Damson Idris may be eyed for the role; however, nothing has been confirmed by Marvel at this time.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, a new Black Panther will indeed be introduced in Avengers: Secret Wars. Richtman further reports that Marvel has already begun meeting with actors for the role.
The full cast of Avengers: Secret Wars has yet to be announced. Whether or not they hold off on revealing any names until after Doomsday comes out, or if it will be earlier than that since Secret Wars will be filming this summer, remains to be seen.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is then dated for December 17, 2027.
It is also known that Black Panther 3 is in the works at Marvel, though a release date for that project has not yet been announced, meaning that it’ll be coming after Avengers: Secret Wars. Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the movie.
