Fresh off the success of Obsession, actor Inde Navarrette has revealed that she recently met with Marvel Studios’ X-Men director Jake Schreier. While Navarrette was previously rumored to be in the mix for several superhero roles, the actor shared that her personal dream character differs significantly from fan speculation.
Speaking with Variety, Navarrette revealed that among the many meetings she had been in recently, one of those included Schreier. She mentioned growing up as a fan of the original X-Men films while praising the director for his work on Thunderbolts.
“I thought what Jake brought to Thunderbolts was what I used to love about Marvel,” said Navarrette. “It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop yapping about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel.”
When asked who she would like to play in X-Men if she gets cast, Navarrette replied, “I mean, Mystique has always been super cool.”
Here’s who we know will be starring in the X-Men MCU reboot movie
Marvel Studios has not officially cast Navarrette in the film yet, but it did add a key member for the upcoming ensemble. Earlier today, it was revealed that Marvel had cast Samara Weaving as Emma Frost in X-Men. The studio has not revealed any other cast members for the film, but recent rumors suggest that Charles Melton has signed a deal to star in the film.
If Navarrette were eventually cast as Mystique, she would become the third actor to bring the shape-shifting mutant to live-action, following Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence in Fox’s X-Men franchise. Romijn is set to reprise her iconic role in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios has not yet officially announced a release date for X-Men. However, fans can likely expect the film to arrive after Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
