X-Men MCU Rumor Reveals Villains Being Eyed for First Mutant Movie

The future of the X-Men in the MCU remains unknown, but a recent report suggests that Marvel Studios may have their eyes on a couple of potential villains.

What X-Men villains are Marvel Studios eyeing?

In a new question-and-answer series from The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez, a question was asked about potential comic book storylines of the X-Men the MCU would adapt. Perez noted that he wasn’t 100% sure of anything, but did hear that “all signs” point to a handful of big villains appearing in the MCU.

“Based on what I have commented and heard, all signs point to Mr. Sinister, Essex, Senator Kelly and Bolivar Trask being the first antagonist elements they’d want to use for the first X-Men film,” said Perez.

Mr. Sinister, while not the biggest X-Men villain, is one of its most iconic. Senator Kelly and Bolivar Trask are also high-profile villains throughout the X-Men’s history. As it stands, there are no official X-Men casting for the MCU’s new generation of the iconic mutant group.

The cast from the original series of films — including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X — are set to appear in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, although it’s unclear what their role will be in that as well.

Recent rumors floating around point to Bryan Cranston being eyed for the role of Professor X, although nothing has been confirmed as of yet. In an interesting turn of events, though, Cranston has also spoken about playing Mr. Sinister in the past.

“I want to play an antagonist a fraction smarter than the protagonist, never dumbed down to give the hero an easy win,” Cranston said way back in 2018 in an interview with ScreenGeek. “That’s frustrating and boring to watch. Actually, that was the character, I’ll admit. Mister Sinister was the character I was thinking about.”
