The Mandalorian & Grogu Star Reveals Production Window for Star Wars Movie, Shares Update

The Mandalorian’s Brendan Wayne says The Mandalorian & Grogu will likely begin filming this June.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Wayne, who serves as the body double for Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin in the popular Disney+ Star Wars series, gave an update about the production window for The Mandalorian & Grogu.

“From what I heard, that’s what I keep reading everywhere, it’s in June. I think Jon [Favreau] said June,” Wayne said.

Wayne also teased that he knows “everything about [the movie].” He added, “I will tell you, honestly, like Jon would never do [greenlight something without a script]. I understand production, like the studio, being like, ‘Hey, you’re doing a movie, not doing season 4?’ If that’s how it occurred. That’s fair because it’s in their best interest. They make more money off a movie, it’s not even close. It’s not even close! But Jon loves and honors everything he does, but specifically Star Wars, because for him, it means something beyond this moment. He would never do something half-assed. It matters too much to him. And [Dave] Filoni would never let it happen.”

Announced in January 2024, The Mandalorian & Grogue is directed by Favreau, who also produces the movie with Kathleen Kennedy and Filoni.

Plot details for the movie, which serves as a spin-off to Disney+’s The Mandalorian, remain under wraps at this time.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau previously said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Kennedy added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,”

The Mandalorian & Grogu does not yet have a release date; although, Disney CEO Bob Iger said in February 2024 that it will be the next Star Wars feature film released in theaters and will likely come out in 2026.
