Sylvester Stallone is a New Kind of Hero in the First Poster For Samaritan

It goes without saying that Sylvester Stallone is no stranger to playing a hero. But stepping into the role of a bona fide superhero (sorry, Judge Dredd and The Suicide Squad don’t count) is entirely new territory for him. Luckily, Stallone will finally get a chance to don his very own supersuit when Samaritan hits Amazon Prime in August. Ahead of its debut, Prime Video has released the first official poster for the upcoming film. You can check it out for yourself below.

Stallone stars in the movie as Joe Smith, a recluse living in Granite City. Smith’s life is suddenly turned upside down when his 13-year-old neighbor, Sam Cleary (played by The Umbrella Academy’s Javon “Wanna” Walton), begins to suspect that he’s actually Samaritan, a long-missing superhero who was reported dead after a fight with his archvillain, Nemesis, 25 years ago. With crime rising all around them, Sam tries to convince Smith to come out of hiding and become his city’s savior once again.

Additionally, Amazon has shared a handful of new images from the film, one of which appears to show Stallone’s character using his superhuman strength. You can view the photos in the gallery below. In addition to Stallone and Walton, Samaritan’s cast also includes Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco, Moisés Arias, and Martin Starr. Julius Avery (Overlord) directed the film from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut.

Samaritan will debut on Amazon Prime on August 26. The movie’s first trailer is also reportedly “coming soon.”
