Who will be the next young actor to take on the role of Peter Parker and his webhead alter ego in the new Spider-Man film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios? TheWrap claims to have an update on the current search for a star, reporting that, while no offers have been made, at least five young stars are very much in contention at the moment. Their list includes Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game), Timothee Chalamet (One and Two, Interstellar), Tom Holland (Locke, The Impossible), Liam James (“Psych,” The Way, Way Back) and Natt Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns). “There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told CraveOnline earlier this month. “You just don’t know it yet… In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics.”
Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Anthony and Joe Russo’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War, set for release on May 6, 2016. He’ll then get his own solo film, set for release on July 28, 2017.
