Dave Filoni Promoted To Executive Creative Director At Lucasfilm

For the last 16 years, Dave Filoni has left his mark on the Star Wars franchise. In 2005, he was hired by George Lucas to help build up Lucasfilm’s animation studio. The fruits of that collaboration led to The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. More recently Filoni has executive produced The Mandalorian alongside series creator Jon Favreau. Both Filoni and Favreau are also guiding the upcoming Mandalorian spinoffs at Disney+.

Via the official Lucasfilm site, Filoni’s contributions to Star Wars have been rewarded with a promotion. In addition to his duties as an executive producer, Filoni is now an Executive Creative Director on Lucasfilm’s leadership board.

However, we should clear up some speculation. First, this doesn’t mean that Kathleen Kennedy is going anywhere. Second, Filoni is not the only Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilm. Doug Chiang and John Knoll also hold those positions on the board.

Regardless, this does seem to indicate that Filoni’s creative input will only grow with his new position. In addition to The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Filoni is also slated to oversee Star Wars: Ahsoka.

More recently, Filoni created Star Wars: The Bad Batch, his fourth animated series for Lucasfilm. New episodes premiere every Friday on Disney+.
