Giancarlo Esposito Teases Darksaber Action In The Mandalorian Season 2
In the first season finale of The Mandalorian, Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon revealed his survival by wielding the darksaber, a customized lightsaber that is revered by Mandalorians. During a recent interview with Variety, Esposito indicated that he’ll get to show off Gideon’s lightsaber skills in The Mandalorian season 2. He also compared his role in the Star Wars universe to Gus Fring, his iconic villain from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
“Moff is very different from Gus Fring,” admitted Esposito. “He wields his own darksaber. He does his own dirty work and is certainly willing to. He’s much more volatile, he’s much more of the warrior and that could tell us some things about him next season.”
Additionally, Esposito revealed that he broke several darksaber props while filming the second season.

“I’ve gone through two, three? Three and a half, I think I’ve broken already,” said Esposito. “But I go at it. Like, I go at it. I’ve broken few of them to the point where the [prop] guys, they love me. Just so you know,’ they whisper to me, ‘we only have one more.’”
The Mandalorian season 2 will hit Disney+ in October.
