Superman and Lobo may already have a history in the new DCU. The two characters, played in James Gunn’s universe by David Corenswet and Jason Momoa, will appear in the upcoming movie Supergirl. The film will be out in theatres on June 26 and is directed by Craig Gillespie.
Jason Momoa Reveals Superman and Lobo have a history in DCU
Jason Momoa recently shared that his character, Lobo, and David Corenswet’s Superman may have already clashed in the DCU. The actor made some cryptic remarks in a recent conversation with Fandango.
With the release of Supergirl just a few days away, Momoa was asked about his thoughts on David Corenswet’s Superman. Corenswet will reprise the role in Supergirl after first debuting as the superhero in 2025. In his reply, Momoa said, “He got in my way a couple of times. I gave him sāsā, but we respect each other… some of the times.”
He teased a possibility of the duo coming face-to-face in the future after Supergirl and stated, “We’ll see what the future holds.”
Supergirl will be the first time Momoa will appear as Lobo on the big screen. He previously played the popular DC superhero Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU. Fans are also speculating that they will see the first-ever live-action encounter between Superman and Lobo in the upcoming movie. In the Supergirl movie, Milly Alcock plays the lead role of Kara.
Earlier, director Craig Gillespie expressed his excitement about having Momoa as Lobo in the movie. He told Empire, “I was thrilled to have him. I couldn’t imagine anybody else, but it’s a pressure… [we asked ourselves a] million questions to pay homage to the original.” Alcock also added, “Jason had such presence. He is Lobo. And it was exciting to see somebody living out their dream.”
