Kevin Feige Confirms Transgender Hero In the MCU

There’s been very little LGBTQ representation in the MCU films, save for Anthony Russo’s cameo in Avengers: Endgame. That’s about to change as soon as this year, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

From a report provided by Entertainment Weekly, Feige confirmed the news during the New York Film Academy last year. A reporter asked Feige, “Are there any current plans on bringing more LGBTQ+ characters into the MCU, specifically the Trans characters?”

“Yes, very soon,” responded Feige. “In a movie we’re shooting right now.”

That’s all Feige would say on the matter. However, he did note in the past that The Eternals, which opens later this year, would see an openly gay character

Feige hinted at the gay hero’s identity during last year’s D23 Expo.

“He’s married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is,” Feige. The Eternals will hit theaters on November 6, 2020.

Regardless of which film it happens in, DC’s Supergirl series on The CW already beat Marvel to the punch. Back in 2018, trans actor Nicole Maines joined the cast as the trans superhero, Dreamer.

The video interview is below, and the question comes up at the 23-minute mark.
