Rosario Dawson is Batgirl in The LEGO Batman Movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, fan-fav actress Rosario Dawson (Death Proof, Clerks II) has just signed on to the voice cast of Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Batman Movie playing Barbara Gordon, daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon, who eventually takes up the crime-fighting mantle as Batgirl. Dawson joins a cast that includes Will Arnett as the titular Dark Knight, Michael Cera as the boy wonder Robin, and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker.

No stranger to the comic book realm, Dawson has starred in big screen adaptations like Men in Black II, Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and is currently earning lots of love for her role as Claire Temple/Night Nurse in Netflix and Marvel’s “Daredevil” show as well as their upcoming “Jessica Jones” and “Luke Cage” series. She has also lent her voice to DC’s direct-to-DVD animated movies of Wonder Woman (playing Artemis) and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (as Wonder Woman), and will voice Elaris in the upcoming big screen video game adaptation of Ratchet & Clank.

The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct The LEGO Batman Movie, which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The LEGO Movie and are also developing an animated version of Spider-Man for Sony, will produce the film along with Dan Lin.

The LEGO Batman Movie will swing into theaters on May 26, 2017.
