Tom Holland has been Spider-Man in the MCU for over a decade. But the actor believes someone else could have a completely different version of Peter Parker.
In the latest Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland was asked to imagine an alternate reality where he never landed the role, and Timothée Chalamet became the MCU’s Spider-Man instead. The English actor did not dismiss the idea; instead, he praised the Dune star who acted alongside his wife, Zendaya.
“I think he [Timothée] would make a great Spider-Man,” Holland said. “I think he would really bring a lot of emotion. He would be a more brooding version of the character, which might be kind of interesting.”
Holland then joked that if Chalamet had become Spider-Man, perhaps he would star Paul Atreides in Dune. “Maybe I got Dune,” he laughed. “Dude would be this kind of blumbering idiot like running through the sand. That’d be kind of fun though.”
Even though he was joking, Holland’s comments suggest Chalamet could have given fans a more emotional, quieter version of Spider-Man than his own.
What lies ahead for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man after Brand New Day
For now, Tom Holland remains focused on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but he has already opened up about Peter Parker’s long-term future. In the same interview, the British actor revealed that Marvel had clear plans to pass the mantle to a new hero since Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Holland also said he hopes to introduce and mentor new-generation heroes (Miles Morales) before stepping away from the iconic franchise. That said, it does not mean Holland will exit after his time in Spider-Man 4. The actor has said he’s happy to continue playing Spider-Man for as long as Marvel Studios and Sony want him.
Beyond the MCU, Holland’s next major project is Sony Pictures’ Fred Astaire biopic, directed by Paul King. The actor is set to participate in dance rehearsals once his current Spider-Man press tour comes to an end.
