After having his identity and memories erased from those he loved most, fans would understand if Peter Parker was a tad depressed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, a new rumor claims that the titular web-slinger will actually be the one trying to help a different fan-favorite character out of his bad headspace at the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
Which MCU character will be depressed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
According to insider @DivinitySeeker1 on X, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk is “NOT doing well” at the start of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, noting that “he is a shadow of his former self and very different” from the version that appeared in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022.
The insider also made clear that Brand New Day will not start with Banner as Professor Hulk. Instead, he will appear as “his normal, human self (albeit depressed and over life),” with Peter needing “to be the one to help him out of his ‘funk.'”
This is quite the development for Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk, especially after She-Hulk ended with the Avenger introducing his family to his son, Skaar, who was conceived during his time on Sakaar between the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok.
With She-Hulk leaving the character in an upbeat spot in his life, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will have to explain what the Green Goliath has been up to in the years since to end up with such a depressive state of mind.
Unfortunately for Banner and the Hulk, leaked plot details for Brand New Day have revealed that the character will be transformed into the Grey Hulk, who will serve as a secondary antagonist for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Jean Grey, whom the Punisher is protecting from Damage Control, will be responsible for Banner’s Grey Hulk transformation.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
