Some new rumored details about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s potential MCU returns have been revealed.
Both Maguire and Garfield have played Marvel’s Spider-Man, with Maguire doing so in the three movies directed by Sam Raimi — 2002’s Spider-Man, 2004’s Spider-Man 2, and 2007’s Spider-Man 3 — and Garfield in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Both Maguire and Garfield then reprised their roles alongside Tom Holland in the 2021 MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. It has been rumored that the two of them may continue to appear in MCU projects such as Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, though there’s been no actual confirmation from Marvel Studios that this is happening.
What are the new rumor about Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield’s MCU return as Spider-Man?
Scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked if Maguire and Garfield could continue to play a role in the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars or if their stories will end after that ensemble blockbuster movie.
“Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s story will end after Avengers: Secret Wars,” Perez answered.
It is again important to point out that this is just a rumor, as neither Maguire nor Garfield has stated that they’ll appear in any other upcoming MCU projects. Marvel did, however, keep Maguire and Garfield’s Spider-Man: No Way Home casting a secret for as long as they could, though whether they would repeat this same move for another project remains to be seen.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in United States theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027. Before those two films, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, will be released on July 31, 2026.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Disney+.
