A new rumor reveals what Scarlet Witch’s MCU status will be following the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. The film is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, and is currently expected to arrive in 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then arrives in 2027.
Next to nothing has been officially revealed by Marvel in regards to the plot of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars; however, Kevin Feige did recently say that Secret Wars will serve as a “reset” to the MCU.
“Reboot is a scary word,” he said, via Variety. “Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Later, he added, “‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”
In the same interview, Feige also hinted that characters like Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America could eventually be recast now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have retired those roles.
“I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role,” Feige said. “How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”
What does the Avengers: Secret Wars rumor say about Scarlet Witch’s MCU status?
Scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked if he had any knowledge about which MCU characters will definitely not be recast after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. Perez answered, “Scarlet Witch, for starters.”
This is just a rumor at this time and should be taken with a grain of salt, as the MCU’s Wanda Maximoff is currently dead. There’s been plenty of whisperings about her possible resurrection and inclusion in one or both of the forthcoming Avengers movies, but Elizabeth Olsen’s casting has not been announced at this time.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
