DCU Rumors Give Updates on Sgt. Rock & Clayface Movies

A new set of DCU rumors has surfaced online involving the current status of DC Studios’ highly anticipated Sgt. Rock and Clayface movies. This comes after it was previously reported that production on the Sgt. Rock movie was halted. The project was originally going to start filming later this year.

Meanwhile, the Clayface movie recently went through a creative setback, after director Mike Flanagan had to exit the project due to scheduling issues with his other high-profile projects, including a new Exorcist movie and a Carrie series. The adaptation will now be directed by Speak No Evil filmmaker James Watkins.

What are the updates for the Sgt. Rock and Clayface movies?

According to insider Daniel Richtman, the Sgt. Rock movie is still moving forward “for now,” despite the studio’s decision to delay its scheduled production start date. However, it will reportedly remain on pause until 2026. As for the Clayface movie, the studio is reportedly targeting a September 2025 filming start window for the live-action adaptation.

Before Sgt. Rock was halted, Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell was initially attached to lead the project. The adaptation was also expected to be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, with frequent collaborator Justin Kuritzkes writing the script. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, the character is described as “a tough-as-nails leader of Easy Company, the combat unit fighting Nazi forces in Europe.”

Clayface is a fan-favorite Batman villain who has shapeshifting abilities. The adaptation will be “a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant.” The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026.
