Highly Anticipated DCU TV Show Gets Terrible Update After Finally Making Some Progress

David Jenkins has shared a terrible update for DC fans. The Our Flag Means Death creator confirmed that his planned version of the Booster Gold TV series is no longer moving forward after more than a year in development.

Jenkins wrote, “My ‘Booster Gold’ won’t be moving forward. Can’t improve on Mahershala’s lovely statement so I’ll just apply it here as well.”

Jenkins was referencing Mahershala Ali’s recent comments regarding Marvel Studios’ long-delayed Blade reboot. Ali said, “For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on. Again, you had me under contract; they have billions of dollars. If they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. I feel ready to move on from the ‘Blade’ questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question.”

How far David Jenkins got developing his DC television project before it stalled

Booster Gold was announced in 2023 as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s first DCU slate. The series centers on a disgraced former football star from the 25th century who uses basic future technology to travel back to the present day and pose as a superhero. He is being assisted by his robotic companion, Skeets.

David Jenkins joined the project in 2025 as its writer and showrunner. He completed the pilot script and turned it in during 2026, but the series never entered production.

Earlier this year, James Gunn revealed that Booster Gold was in development. Despite Jenkins confirming that his iteration of the series was no longer going to happen, DC Studios has yet to indicate that the HBO project has been canceled. Since Jenkins only turned in his pilot script recently, the studio could choose to redevelop with a different writer or creative team.
