Kevin Feige Discusses Black Knight’s Future in the MCU

In addition to ushering forth a new era in the MCU, Marvel’s Eternals will also herald a mini Game of Thrones reunion. As announced at D23, Kit Harington will join his former GoT co-star Richard Madden in the film. Harington will play Dane Whitman, a.k.a. Black Knight, a hero whose comic book appearances date back over five decades. While speaking with Good Morning America, Kevin Feige praised Harington’s acting ability and shared his enthusiasm for what he brings to the table. He also suggested that Harington’s character might have a larger role to play in the MCU’s future.

“He’s a really amazing actor,” said Feige. “This part came up in the Eternals film that we’re doing. We were so happy that he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”

Dane Whitman/Black Knight made his debut in The Avengers #47 in 1967. Black Knight joined the Avengers full time during the ’80s and remained one of the core members into the ’90s. If Marvel ever decides to produce a fifth Avengers film, Black Knight could prove to be a worthy stand-in for one of the heroes who fell in Endgame. It’s also worth noting that Black Knight was romantically linked with Sersi during their Avengers stint. Gemma Chan has signed on to play Sersi in Eternals.
