Why did Soldier Boy give Homelander the V1 in The Boys Season 5 Episode 6?

The Boys Season 5 Episode 6 was geared towards Homelander’s attempts at getting his hands on the Compound V1. Billy Butcher and his team tried to do the same.

Sister Sage played a huge part in this episode, as she tried to orchestrate the events in a way that would lead to Soldier Boy retrieving the V1 from his former teammate, Bombsight, and destroying it before Homelander got his hands on it.

In her attempt to widen the wedge between Soldier Boy and Homelander, who already have a complicated relationship, Sage introduced them to a video of Homelander and Stormfront (Clara). While this did lead to an awkward confrontation, it also played a part in the final twist of the episode.

At the end of the episode, Soldier Boy acquired the V1 from Bombsight as Butcher’s group watched them from hiding. Homelander arrived right after Soldier Boy had accomplished the mission. Sage was certain that Soldier Boy would destroy the compound. But in a sudden twist, Soldier Boy decided to give the V1 to Homelander.

He did this because, despite his many issues with Homelander, he still loved Homelander and was proud of him. While the two may not have started out well, they were still each other’s only relatives. Moreover, realizing that Clara (Stormfront) also loved Homelander and would have perhaps wanted this future for him, Soldier Boy decided to give Homelander the compound that would make him immortal.

So, it seems that Sister Sage failed to predict this outcome, and it could have brutal consequences for the future of the show.
