Mondo’s First Masters of the Universe Vehicle Is the Sky Sled

From Masters of the Universe Classics to Origins, the Sky Sled tends to be what tests the waters for vehicle feasibility. That makes some sense — it’s the smallest classic MOTU vehicle with no moving parts (the smaller Jet Sled has a fold-down handlebar assembly). Now it’s coming for the 12-inch Mondo figures, but don’t expect the lack of moving parts to make it any cheaper. At $395, it’s pricier than a figure. It’s most likely testing the waters, too. If fans go for it, there’s a lot more that can be made.

Reach for the Sky

The current offer is for a timed edition, which suggests that it could see rerelease with less stuff included later on. If, and don’t count on that “if,” it happens, future editions likely won’t include the two bonus heads — portraits of Prince Adam and He-Man with windswept hair. The Sky Sled pretty much has to include its display base, flame exhaust effect, and laser blasts. It also features a pop-off side panel to reveal engine details within.

Originally, the Sky Sled was not sold as a separate vehicle but rather as the removable front end of the Battle Ram vehicle. It would separate into two parts, with the back end a rolling missile launcher and the front end a single-rider flying vehicle. After testing the market for vehicles with the Sky Sled by itself, the Classics line eventually produced a full Battle Ram. Could Mondo have similar plans? We certainly wouldn’t count them out.

Act fast if you want it, as presales close May 17th at noon central time. It’s okay if you don’t have the money in hand; payment plans are available in both monthly and quarterly installments. Expect shipping in November, probably in time for the holiday gifting season.
