It’s been almost three years since the Guardians of the Galaxy appeared in the MCU, but they are poised to have a big 2022. In addition to their supporting roles in Thor: Love and Thunder, director James Gunn also filmed new scenes for Walt Disney World’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind while shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn and the cast are also making The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for later this year. And in a new interview with Radio Times, Gunn couldn’t help sharing his excitement for it. James Gunn hypes.
“The Holiday Special is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” said Gunn. “It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it.”
“And it’s out pretty soon,” added Gunn. “You know, it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”
Gunn didn’t share any story details about the holiday special, but it will presumably take place before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff are all expected to appear. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel will also reprise their roles as the voices of Rocket and Groot, respectively.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will hit Disney+ in December. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is rumored to open at Disney World in May. And Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2023.
