Netflix Announces Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Christmas Special

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is already confirmed to be getting a second season. But thankfully, fans of the new series don’t have to wait that long for more paranormal thrills. In a surprise announcement today, Netflix revealed that the show will be airing a Christmas special next month. Series creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also teased the episode via Twitter. You can check out his tweet below.

Titled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale, the special will be available to stream on December 14. According to the Netflix announcement, the episode finds the Church of Night celebrating the Winter Solstice by singing pagan carols and telling ghost stories. As the logline promises, “you never know what might come down the chimney.” Given the series’ dark approach to the source material, we can safely guess that Santa Claus won’t be one of the guests in the Spellman household. All cast members, including Kiernan Shipka (Sabrina), Miranda Otto (Zelda), and Lucy Davis (Hilda), will return for the special. A Midwinter’s Tale was co-written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Donna Thorland. Jeff Woolnough directed the episode.

The special is advertised as part of It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Netflix, the streaming service’s Christmas-themed programming block. The campaign includes several Yuletide classics as well as a slew of original holiday films produced exclusively for Netflix. Among the new films are The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell as Santa and The Princess Switch featuring Vanessa Hudgens.

Ahead of the special’s premiere, Netflix has released a teaser for the new campaign, which boasts clips from A Midwinter’s Tale. You can watch it via YouTube below. Are you excited for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s upcoming Christmas episode? Let us know in the comment section!
