David Harbour teases Avengers: Doomsday will affect Alexei and Yelena’s bond
David Harbour has shared a new update about Avengers: Doomsday. He revealed that the film will have a significant impact on the relationship between Alexei Shostakov and Yelena Belova. The comments provide one of the earliest teases about the direction of Red Guardian’s story following the events of Thunderbolts*.
Harbour made the remarks during a recent interview with Deadline while promoting his new series DTF St. Louis. When asked what he could reveal about Avengers: Doomsday, the actor pointed to the connection between Red Guardian and Yelena. “You know that Yelena Belova [Florence Pugh] and Red Guardian have a connection. If you saw Thunderbolts*, you know how much they love each other and how much they’re trying to help each other. And Doomsday will affect that relationship,” the actor said. However, he did not share any specific story details or how the relationship changes.
This is not the first time Harbour has hinted at what audiences can expect from Avengers: Doomsday. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the actor spoke about the relationship between the New Avengers and the original Avengers. “I mean, there’s trouble for sure. We definitely approach things differently than those guys, and we have different ideas about how to do things,” he said.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
