Tom Holland already knows how Spider-Man‘s story could eventually pass to a new hero in the MCU. The British actor will next appear as the iconic superhero in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters this week.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 30-year-old star revealed that he already knows how Spider-Man’s mantle could eventually be passed to a new hero. It’s already known that Miles Morales could soon appear in live-action, while emerging as Peter Parker’s successor.
The London-born actor said, “Oh yeah, there’s a whole plan that we have been working on for I would say since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it’s like laid out. It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton and I think it’s really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it.”
While he didn’t reveal any specifics, Holland suggested that Marvel has long-term plans for eventually passing the mantle to a future Spider-Man. However, replacing his version of the character is not going to be an easy task in the MCU.
The challenge of replacing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man
Since 2016, Holland has impressed millions of fans with his portrayal of the character in the MCU. After making his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, he established himself as one of Marvel’s most popular superheroes. Later followed that with the success of his own solo Spider-Man films.
In 2017, Homecoming was released and grossed nearly $880 million across the globe. The second film, 2019’s Far From Home, became the first live-action Spider-Man film to make $1 billion at the global box office, earning close to $1.10 billion worldwide.
The third installment, No Way Home, which was released in 2021, surpassed its predecessor by a huge margin. The third entry earned more than $1.9 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in his Spider-Man trilogy in the MCU.
Clearly, it won’t be an easy job for the next Spider-Man actor to deliver such results at the box office after Holland’s departure as Peter Parker.
His fourth solo film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
