Announced in 2023, the Game of Thrones spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has received an update regarding its potential release date. Based on writer George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the prequel to the hit HBO show was originally supposed to premiere sometime during late 2025. However, current reports surrounding the series suggest that its release window could fall in the early months of 2026.
Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could have an early 2026 release date
According to the renowned Game of Thrones scooper, House the Dragons, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently undergoing reshoots in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
However, the update failed to mention the extent of the reshoots that the first season of the Game of Thrones spin-off series will go through. Considering that multiple large-scale projects go through modifications during production, the proposed filming changes may not delay A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ release date by too much.
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed a postponed release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms during WBD’s recent upfront presentation. During the event, the entertainment giants showcased the series’ trailer to advertisers in New York City. As the snippet came to an end, a title card with the project’s premiere date confirmed that it will now air in 2026. HBO CEO Casey Bloys later added another layer to the update by noting that the prequel show will likely come out sometime in the winter.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a small-screen adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, which revolve around the misadventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen. Set after the events of the ongoing House of the Dragon, the show still serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, taking place a hundred years prior to the main series.
