The final superhero movie of Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe has found a new streaming home in Prime Video. During its theatrical run, the 2023 film failed to surpass its predecessor’s billion-dollar box office performance. It only grossed around $440 million worldwide.
What DCEU movie is now on Prime Video?
As of today, 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa, is finally available to stream on Prime Video. It was the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster movie Aquaman. Unlike the first installment, it garnered negative reviews from critics with an approval rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, it still received a much higher Popcornmeter score of 79%. Despite ending his run as Aquaman, Momoa has found a new exciting role in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe. This June 26, fans will be able to see Momoa in his first DCU movie, Supergirl, where he’ll be playing his dream role, Lobo.
“After failing to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta wields the power of the mythic Black Trident to unleash an ancient and malevolent force,” reads the sequel‘s synopsis. “Hoping to end his reign of terror, Aquaman forges an unlikely alliance with his brother, Orm, the former king of Atlantis. Setting aside their differences, they join forces to protect their kingdom and save the world from irreversible destruction.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was directed by James Wan, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing the screenplay. The sequel also starred Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Amber Heard as Mera, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Vincent Regan as Atlan, and Pilou Asbæk as Kordax. It was executive-produced by Walter Hamada, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary, and Galen Vaisman.
