A new Joker and Harley Quinn movie could be happening at DC Studios.
James Gunn and Peter Safran launched their DCU in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. That was followed by Gunn’s Superman movie, while Peacemaker Season 2 premieres next month. In 2026, Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface will all be released.
What do we know about the Joker & Harley Quinn rumor?
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger has written a script for a Joker and Harley Quinn movie that he intends to pitch to Gunn.
This is only a rumor at this time, as there’s been no official announcement about any such project.
Cregger has, however, said before that he wrote a script for a project set in Gotham City.
“There are conversations about existing I.P. franchises that I can’t talk about, and then there’s a script I wrote before Barbarian that takes place, um, in Gotham City,” he told ComicBook in 2022. “And, uh, I actually love… I think that’s my favorite thing I’ve written believe it or not, so I don’t know what’s gonna happen with that. Nobody from Warner Bros. or DC. I have not talked to anybody about it. I hope to one day.”
There hasn’t been any kind of announcement or details about Joker or Harley Quinn’s role in the DCU; although, that doesn’t mean things can’t be adjusted. Gunn previously said that they originally weren’t planning to make a Clayface movie until Mike Flanagan turned in a script for it.
Having said that, even if the rumor is accurate and DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures decide to make Cregger’s Joker and Harley Quinn movie, there’s no guarantee that it’ll be set within the DCU. It could be part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga or, alternatively, a different universe altogether, as Gunn has stated his interest in doing Elseworld projects in the past.
