Clayface DCU Movie Casts Its Lead Actor, James Gunn Gives Statement

The Clayface movie has found its lead actor.

Clayface is a forthcoming DCU movie directed by James Watkins. With a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, the film will be released in United States theaters in September 2026 from Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios.

Who has been cast as Clayface?

Tom Rhys Harries has been officially cast as Clayface, per Deadline.

James Gunn said on X, “After a long and incredibly exhaustive search, we finally have our DCU Clayface in Tom Rhys Harries. Both Matt Reeves and I were just blown away by this guy, and can’t wait for you to see this film, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan.”

Rhys Harries is a Welsh actor known for starring in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, which was released in 2019. His filmography also includes 2014’s Ironclad: Battle for Blood, 2016’s Hot Property, 2018’s Slaughterhouse Rulez, 2023’s Kandahar, 2024’s The Return, and more. In television, Rhys Harries has had roles on shows such as Jekyll and Hyde, Unforgotten, White Lines, and Suspicion, among other titles.

Other actors who were in the running for the Clayface role include Sinners’ Jack O’Connell, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ Tom Blyth, The White Lotus’ Leo Woodall, and 1917’s George MacKay.

The Clayface movie is being produced by Gunn, The Batman’s Reeves, Peter Safran, and Lynn Harris, while Chantal Nong serves as an executive producer. The character was previously voiced by Alan Tudyk in Creature Commandos. Tudyk additionally voiced Clayface in the Harley Quinn animated show, though that project is not part of the DCU.

Clayface will be released in theaters on September 11, 2026. It will be the third feature film in Gunn and Safran’s DCU following Superman (releasing July 11, 2025) and Supergirl (releasing June 26, 2026).
