During his conversation with CinemaBlend, Tom Rhys Harries was asked to name one DC superhero he would like Clayface to meet in the upcoming films. While most actors would choose Batman or Superman among the superheroes, Harries chose something that Clayface is known for.
He said, “Well, I’m Clayface, so I could become other DC characters.”
The joke instantly caught fans’ attention since it completely described Clayface’s powers. The shape-shifting villain has the power to change his appearance into anyone. Therefore, the possibilities are endless if the character returns in future DCU projects.
While he didn’t name any particular hero, Harries’ reply points to the many creative opportunities that remain open for the character. Clayface was one of the most versatile villains of Batman in the past. His ability to shift identities made him a perfect candidate for teaming up with various characters in the DCU.
Clayface movie happens to be among the most peculiar productions by DC Studios ever. The film, helmed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, is an R-rated body horror movie, and not a superhero movie.
Clayface will star Harries as Matt Hagen, an actor in Gotham City who experiences a change in his life due to his face being horribly disfigured. In his search for a solution, Matt seeks the help of scientist Dr. Caitlin Bates, portrayed by Naomi Ackie.
Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, and David Dencik also make up the cast list. While most comic book adaptations usually emphasize superpowered fight scenes, Clayface is said to delve deeper into psychological horror elements, identity issues, and tragedies, rather than concentrating on grandiose superhero showdowns. DC Studios has already revealed that the movie is set before Creature Commandos and is one of the early installments of the DC Universe.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 23, 2026.
