Sebastian Stan says Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* has some similarities with John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club.
Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit United States theaters in May 2025. The MCU movie is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Stan as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and more.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Stan compared Thunderbolts* to 1985’s The Breakfast Club when asked what he could tell fans about the forthcoming Marvel movie.
What did Sebastian Stan say about Thunderbolts* and The Breakfast Club?
“I’m telling you, I think this movie is very singular and will stand on its own,” Stan said. “I know these are bold words, but there’s no other Marvel group that you can kind of compare us to. It’s its own thing. I like The Breakfast Club, that’s the best way of describing it. A pair of misfits that hopefully don’t kill each other.”
Stan also said, “Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are some of the funniest people I’ve ever been around. I’m excited for people.”
When asked about the current state of the MCU and how he feels about recent developments such as Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom, Stan said, “I think what I appreciate is that there is always an open way of thinking. They don’t shut themselves down or put themselves in any pocket. They just want to keep exploring. That’s what, I think, leads to great, better movies.”
Louis-Dreyfus reprises her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Thunderbolts*. The cast additionally includes Wyatt Rusell as John Walker, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Lewis Pullman as Bob, and Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel.
Thunderbolts* will be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
