The Marvels’ Carol and Monica Have an Awkward Reunion in New Clip

A new clip from Marvel Studios‘ upcoming film The Marvels has been released, showing the moment that Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers and Teyonah ParrisMonica Rambeau see each other for the first time in decades.

The video was shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Captain Marvel, with the caption “Reunited” and a heart-shaped emoji that contrasts the tension in the meeting. Both superheroes are clearly reluctant to revisit their past or rekindle their friendship, and the conversation is taking place in Kamala Khan‘s house, supervised by her family while she herself has gone missing. Nick Fury is also present, and even Goose makes a background appearance as everyone tries to understand why Kamala, Carol, and Monica have been switching places.

Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur reprise their roles as Kamala’s mother Muneeba and father Yusuf, while Saagar Shaikh plays her brother Aamir. All three were introduced, along with Iman Vellani as Kamala herself, in Ms. Marvel, the 2022 miniseries on Disney+. Muneeba and Yusuf bring their comedic energy to the new clip from The Marvels, bickering about whether Carol and Monica are related and demanding someone tell them where their daughter is.

Carol, Monica, and Kamala make it work as The Marvels

In the upcoming film, Carol will have to overcome interpersonal difficulties to lead a new team which will come to be known as The Marvels. The movie serves as a sequel not only to Captain Marvel, but also to Ms. Marvel. The character of Monica, meanwhile, was introduced as a child in Captain Marvel. Parris took up the mantle as an older Monica in the 2021 miniseries WandaVision, which laid the seeds of the suspicion toward Carol that she now seems to hold.

Nia DaCosta directs The Marvels from a script she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. In addition to the main trio, the film’s cast includes many new and returning MCU stars — such as Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Park Seo-joon, Lashana Lynch, and Randall Park.

The Marvels hits United States theaters on November 10, 2023. Tickets are available now.
