The Ancient One is Heard in Marvel’s New Doctor Strange 2 Promo

Spider-Man: Far From Home usually gets all the credit for setting up Marvel’s ongoing trek through parallel realities. But it was actually the first Doctor Strange movie that set the stage for the MCU’s multiverse. Now, its highly-anticipated sequel is about to blow that concept wide open. A brand new teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has made its way online, and it features a major callback to the original 2016 film.

In his last standalone adventure, Stephen Strange learned from the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) that his universe was actually one of countless realities in existence. The latest spot opens by recycling Swinton’s lines from Strange and the Ancient One’s first meeting. But given what we’ve seen of the multiverse so far, her words now sound like a warning rather than a lesson. Especially since the Ancient One’s voiceover is immediately followed by a supercut of all the interdimensional threats that Strange and his allies will encounter next month.

Most of the promo’s scenes footage has been seen before. Regardless, there are still a few fresh scenes to keep fans interested. One shot of note contains a particularly haunting image of Wanda Maximoff using her powers to crush Ultron robot’s head. We also get another glimpse of Strange Supreme, with Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez right behind him. You can watch the new teaser below.

Overall, the sequel appears to be making good on its promise to serve up Marvel’s first real horror movie. And in case there are still any doubters, the film has officially been rated PG-13 for (among other reasons) “intense sequences of violence” and “frightening images.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6.
