Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Extended Edition Novel Fills in Gaps

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker won’t actually be the last time fans get new material on the Skywalker saga. Lucasfilms has just announced that the upcoming novelization of the latest Star Wars movie will hit stores in March. And now fans can get a taste thanks to an excerpt posted online, which takes place during the film’s intense opening sequence when Kylo Ren arrives on Mustafar. In his quest to find the truth about the unexpected transmission from Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader’s grandson meets a strange creature that never actually made it on the screen. Among the marshes of Mustafar, he locks horns with a mysterious being known as the Eye of Webbish Bog.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns Trilogy author Rae Carson wrote the upcoming novelization. Carson has already made a couple of works set in the Star Wars universe, as she wrote From a Certain Point of View‘s “The Red One” story and “Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing” in Canto Bight. According to the press release, the book will feature expanded scenes and content not seen in theaters. Fans will get the chance to read several deleted scenes, as well as never-before-seen material, created with input from the filmmakers. The press release makes it pretty clear that the movie left a lot of information out. This might turn out to be the closest thing to a “JJ cut” that some fans are asking for.
