Star Wars Blu-Ray, DVD Re-Releases Coming This September

With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker around the corner, Disney is starting to build up hype surrounding its release. That includes the return of several  Star Wars  classic films, which will re-circulate next month on Blu-Ray and DVD. They’re set to arrive on both formats starting on September 22. New artwork has been spotted for the films, which can be seen in the gallery below.

There don’t appear to be any new extras that weren’t available in previous box sets. However, the Blu-Ray releases do come with digital versions, so fans can download those movies. They should also be compatible with Movies Anywhere and Disney Movie Rewards.  But the DVD releases don’t appear to have the digital versions included.

This does raise a rather interesting question: could 4K releases be far behind? Two of the films – Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Last Jedi– are already available on the format. But Disney has yet to release the other movies in that format. However, with D23 happening this month, Disney could make an announcement there. And that could include The Rise of Skywalker once it makes its home video debut sometime in 2020.

For the time being, fans that want to re-invest in the films on Blu-Ray and DVD – and enjoy the new artwork that comes with it – can do so soon. For those that want to wait, most of the Star Wars films will be available to stream on Disney+ starting on November 12. Only Solo and The Last Jedi will be withheld from Disney+ at launch. But they will be added to Disney+ in the future.

Will you be buying any of these Star Wars films again on Blu-Ray or DVD? Let us know in the comments below!
