Warning: There are minor spoilers for Dark Phoenix ahead!
While Dark Phoenix didn’t light up the box office, it did mark the live-action debut of a cult favorite X-Men hero. In a brief cameo early in the film, The Orville‘s Halston Sage appeared as Alison Blaire, a.k.a. Dazzler. She even wore the facial makeup of Dazzler’s Disco era costume from her first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #130. Because Sage’s screentime was minimal, she didn’t get a chance to fully show off her Dazzler costume. However, she recently rectified that in a post on her Instagram page.

For comparison’s sake, here’s a look at Dazzler from her first appearance.
In the original Dark Phoenix Saga, Dazzler’s powers made her a target for the Hellfire Club and a potential recruit for the X-Men. However, she didn’t join the team until near the end of the ’80s. But in the film itself, Sage’s Dazzler doesn’t even get a chance to say any lines. She simply performs for the students at Charles Xavier’s school while celebrating the safe return of the X-Men from space.
Simon Kinberg, the writer and director of Dark Phoenix, recently confirmed that Sage filmed an additional scene showing Dazzler as one of the mutants who was wounded by Jean Grey’s outburst. However, that moment didn’t make the final cut.
