Rumors of James Gunn Being Removed From DC Explained

A wild rumor about James Gunn being removed from DC in the near future is doing the rounds on the internet. The DC boss, who just delivered the hit Superman, is seemingly in a good position right now, but the rumor has unsettled many fans.

Is there any truth to the claims? Here is a breakdown.

Will James Gunn be removed as co-head of DC after WB merger?

There was ample doubt surrounding James Gunn’s takeover of DC in late 2022. However, the veteran filmmaker left little to complain about as he managed to merge Peacemaker with the newly established DCU. He also delivered a win with Creature Commandos. Additionally, he gave the year’s best superhero movie with Superman, which has done well both critically and commercially.

So, there seems to be no reason, at least for now, to think that anyone will fire Gunn. But the rumors are doing the rounds because of a report from the notoriously unreliable Cosmic Book News.

The report made up almost everything, including the claim that a WB merger could soon replace Gunn with Mike De Luca.

The report on the site read, “While it has been reported that Skydance is eyeing to purchase WBD, I’m told Universal (Comcast) is still in the mix. I know they’ve been eyeing WBD for years….What I am told, if David Ellison buys Warner Bros. Discovery, is that James Gunn will be out. David Ellison’s father, billionaire David Ellison, is close to President Donald Trump.”

There is no truth to this. Most fans, however, ignored the claim since it came from Cosmic Book News. The outlet has made many such inaccurate and wild claims in the past.

So, fans of the new DCU have nothing to worry about until things go sideways with the new projects. That has not happened yet, and Gunn has a long-term plan for the studio, which means things may not go sideways at all.
