This confirmation gave fans the long-awaited update. For instance, user idontbeatgames commented, “As the resident Blue Beetle fan on Threads, this brings me so much joy!!”
What do we know about Blue Beetle’s role in James Gunn’s DCU
The superhero movie first came out in 2023 as part of the DC Extended Universe. But it was not well received by critics. It earned a 78% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it also gained a 91% Popcornmeter score, wth fans hoping for more content for the teen hero.
Moreover, when Gunn shifted the project to his DC Universe, an animated series was announced in 2024. Ultimately, this project was stalled with no further updates. It wasn’t scrapped and is still included in the now-60-year-old’s DC long-term plans.
Earlier this year in January, Belissa Escobedo, who portrayed the titular character’s sister in the movie, shared an update about Blue Beetle 2. Her update stated that the project was “totally in the works and in talks,” echoing what Gunn had said above. Additionally, the movie’s director Ángel Manuel Soto also confirmed this in a separate interview.

In Man of Tomorrow, Maridueña will reprise his role as Jaime Reyes, a teenager who gains superpowers when an alien scarab latches onto him. However, his character’s significance in the movie is kept under wraps.
In a previous interview, the Latin American actor expressed his excitement about reprising his role in Gunn’s DCU, adding, “Regardless of if we get 20 movies or if it’s just this one, I feel truly fulfilled.”
