The Harry Potter reboot series is on its way. The casting has been finalized for the main characters, and HBO expects to start filming very soon. It will have to live up to the hype of the eight incredible movies based on the original books, and it seems that the series is laying the groundwork to ensure this.
What are the major differences between Harry Potter series and movies?
It is too early in the Harry Potter reboot series’ timeline to pit it against a film series that has seen great success and critical acclaim. Even the Oscar-favorite director Alfonso Cuarón stepped up to direct the third movie in the franchise. The series, however, has already gotten a few things right.
One of the most striking things about the series is its casting, which seems to strictly adhere to the descriptions in the books. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint made for a great Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively. They each brought the characters to life in their unique ways. However, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout all look much closer to the descriptions in the novels.
This goes for most other cast members, too, barring Severus Snape (played by Paapa Essiedu). John Lithgow seems to be the Dumbledore that J.K. Rowling envisioned, and even the Dursleys, played by Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby, seem much more age-accurate in the series. Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paul Whitehouse as Filch, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall also showcase how the Harry Potter reboot is intent on casting the series right.
The other key difference between the Harry Potter movies and the Harry Potter reboot series is their respective lengths. The Harry Potter film franchise had to cut out a lot of events for time. Some of these were major ones, especially in the latter movies. The series will not be as pressed for time. It gives the creators much more freedom to adapt more storylines from the books.
