HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series will adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books across seven seasons. Here’s the current confirmed cast:
Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
Casting directors chose Dominic McLaughlin, a young actor from the Sky comedy Grow alongside Nick Frost, to play the Boy Who Lived. He stood out among more than 32,000 child applicants.
Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
Stanton starred as Matilda in the West End production of Matilda: The Musical. She takes on the role of the sharp-witted Gryffindor previously portrayed by Emma Watson.
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
Stout is a newcomer with no prior acting credits. His casting as Harry’s loyal best friend marks his acting debut.
John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
Known for The Crown and Dexter, Lithgow plays the revered Hogwarts Headmaster. Richard Harris and Michael Gambon played the role in the original films.
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
Essiedu gained acclaim in I May Destroy You. He now plays the complex Potions Master originally portrayed by Alan Rickman.
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
The Oscar-nominated actress from Albert Nobbs and Ozark will play the stern yet fair Transfiguration professor, following in the footsteps of Dame Maggie Smith.
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
Comedian and actor Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) joins the cast as the beloved half-giant gamekeeper, a role originally played by Robbie Coltrane.
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
Veteran stage actor Whitehouse (Leopoldstadt, Patriots) portrays Hogwarts’ strict caretaker. David Bradley played the character in the films.
Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell
Thallon, known for The Fast Show and Harry & Paul, takes on the role of the nervous Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, originally played by Ian Hart.
HBO has not yet announced who will play Lord Voldemort. The Harry Potter series will likely premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
